About dbi services

Founded in 2010, dbi services is a leading Swiss expert for the handling of enterprise information systems based on Oracle, Microsoft, Middleware and Open Source technologies, designing, realizing, and operating cutting-edge IT infrastructures that enable companies to focus on their business and their core competencies.

Through this expertise, dbi services covers a wide range of specialized IT services, such as systems design and implementation, business solution integration, IT service management, software license management, systems modernization and IT infrastructure audits.

dbi services counts 170 leading SMBs and multinational companies as its clients, in Switzerland, Germany and Benelux mainly, and in various industries (pharmaceutical, energy, logistics, banking and insurance, the public sector, as well as the healthcare industry).

The challenge

dbi services wishes to offer a new technological solution to its clients in the energy sector:

a Big Data platform aimed to easily and quickly collect and analyze urban energy consumption

dbi services is seeking to invest in a startup able to set up a big data platform that collects and filters data based on the following information and criteria:

  • Meteorological (e.g. sunshine, atmospheric pressure, wind)
  • Calendars (e.g. school holidays, public holidays)
  • Consumption history (consumption in equivalent periods in previous years)
  • Ongoing and in real time (streaming)
  • Different formats, depending on the type of sensor and its return format (json, xml, etc.)
  • Ability to be updated, depending on sensor versions (firmware upgrade)

Thanks to the data collected, the goal is to estimate as accurately as possible over a period of 2 weeks, the consumption of a city of at least the size of Basel (industries included). Dbi services’s clients in the energy sector are essentially public companies who are in charge of providing energetical ressources locally, and bad estimates can result in negative financial impact. For this reason, it is crucial for them to be able to rely on adequate data. In a second step, the project will be expanded with the implementation of a predictive maintenance solution for measuring instruments.

The platform will enable the storage of raw data (Data Lake) and the implementation of dbi services’ datawarehouse and become its backbone of data.

Particular attention will be paid to solutions fostering sustainability.
